Check-in Tool Bundle
Check-in Tool Bundle
A big part of supporting mental health is helping kids to understand their own minds and checking in with them to identify their levels of felt safety, comfort and connection, their levels of energy and affect, what makes them feel safe; their levels of motivation; their levels of understanding; their meta-awareness of their attention, focus and types of distractions; their need for assistance; their emotions, interoceptive sensations and physiological state. These tools can help us see what’s happening on the inside.
These visuals use a battery as a metric to indicate levels of intensity or presence of a symptom, skill, or state of engagement.
The "S" tools and emotion strips are designed to be used as bookmarks to signal to teachers and other adults that the child is stuck or stressed. They can be laminated and marked with dry or wet erase markers.
This bundle of resources will help you to check in with kids to identify the factors that may be barriers to self-regulation, well-being, academic engagement, daily tasks, and quality of life.
