In this course, Dr. Monica Jackman, an experienced occupational therapist and the creator of the OpenMind Program, leads a comprehensive exploration into how goal setting and problem-solving can be transformative tools for children, especially those impacted by trauma, learning disabilities, language impairments and sensory differences. Designed for caregivers, educators, and professionals, this course offers practical strategies to help children build resilience by learning how to set achievable goals that are meaningful to them, and approach challenges with intrinsic motivation and confidence.
Participants will learn how to guide children through the process of identifying their personal goals, and breaking them down into actionable steps. They will also learn how to use the process of supported problem-solving help children identify strengths, strategies and supports that will help them to build skills to develop new habits and meet their new goals. Finally, they will be guided through tools and visuals to help kids self-monitor progress with goals, advocate for necessary supports and modify goals and plans as needed. By fostering these skills, we can empower children to take control of their own growth and recovery, allowing them to overcome obstacles and build a foundation for lifelong success.
Dr. Jackman’s approach draws from her extensive experience in occupational therapy, habit science, neurodivergence, and child development, offering participants evidence-based methods that can be applied in real-life situations. By the end of this course, you will have the tools and insights to help children develop the confidence, independence, and critical thinking skills they need to set meaningful goals, create new habits, and thrive.
