LIVE COURSE: Stillness Prevents Illness: A Meditation “Tasting” Experience
Saturday Dec 28, 2024 at 4pm EST | Course Link will be sent via email, one week prior
In this unique course, Dr. Monica Jackman, an experienced Occupational Therapist and creator of the OpenMind Program, invites you to explore and experience seven evidence-based contemplative practices designed to help you manage stress, pain, anxiety, anger, and grief. These practices also build essential skills such as focus, attention, patience, resilience, and creativity. While the benefits of meditation and focused breathing for physical, mental, and emotional well-being are well-documented, many people struggle to begin and maintain these practices.
This course is ideal for adults looking to improve their mental health and wellness without medication, as well as for caregivers, educators, and professionals working with children and adolescents. You’ll have the chance to 'taste' a variety of meditation practices that you can incorporate into your own life and share with others.
As a participant, you’ll learn about the science-backed benefits of seven secular mindfulness and concentration practices, then experience each one through brief, one-minute sessions – much like a food or wine tasting. You’ll use a provided checklist to track and rate how each practice impacts you. The course will also guide you through goal setting and habit formation, based on neuroscience, so you can integrate your chosen practices into your daily life. Additionally, you’ll receive an introduction on how to teach these practices to children of all ages.
Drawing from her extensive experience in occupational therapy, habit science, neuroscience, and mindfulness research, Dr. Jackman will equip you with the tools to cultivate habits that enhance wellness, coping skills, and resilience. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to implement meditation practices that foster patience, kindness, compassion, and presence – both in yourself and in those around you.
