This song teaches children to be aware of how they talk to others, how tone and intention affect others, and ways to talk to others to make sure they are heard. Developmentally, young children are driven primarily by ego, so this song teaches that speaking nicely to others is not only being kind to others, but also can help children to get what they need because others will listen to kind voices.
